Are You Among the People of God?

Who are the people of God?

The people of God are those people…who are…of God.

Are you of God?  That is, do you think your thoughts in His presence?  Do you do your deeds in His sight?  Do you open your mouth only to please Him with what you will say?

It is strange how many people think that they are among the people of God because of the group with which they associate.  God doesn’t care about your group, but He does care about you.

Live your life before Him and that’s what will make you a person of God.  Not joining the right church or the right religion.

Jesus Was More Moral Than Religious

Jesus was kind and generous.  He did good things for people.  In so doing, He always gave glory to God.  However, He did not get along with, or go along with, the religious leaders of His day.  In fact, He was a source of great consternation to them…and they were the objects of His criticism and ridicule.

You’ve probably heard the story about how He drove the money changers and merchants from the temple with a scourge of cords while overturning their tables.  He certainly made no religious friends with that act.

And then there was the time He healed a man who had been lying on a pallet, lame for the previous 38 years.  Did the religious leaders applaud or even acknowledge the kind and practical benefit Jesus had bestowed on the man?  Hardly.  Instead, they condemned the poor man for carrying around his pallet on the Sabbath.  Can you imagine a wheelchair victim being healed today and then people complaining because the person was pushing around their wheelchair a little too wildly?  Organized religion dulls the moral senses.

Jesus is the God of all righteousness, now reigning over heaven and earth.  He came down here for a while to show us how life ought to be lived.  In doing so, He made it clear that morality is His desire – not religiosity.

Morality Trumps Religion Every Time

Does the world need more religion or more morality?

Does your workplace need more religion or more honesty?

Do your friends need more religion or more kindness?

Does your family need more religion or more love?

If you are stranded in a dark and dangerous place do you want a stranger to do something religious or something helpful?

The good news from heaven is that God answers all these questions the same way we do!  He wants to see more morality (the Bible usually calls it righteousness or justice).  Let’s forsake religion and pursue righteousness in the sight of God.

What Is Truth?

When Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate, the two of them had an interesting exchange.  Upon being questioned, Jesus declared that His purpose in the earth was to testify to the truth.  Pilate, being a man of the world, could only respond, “What is truth?”

This is still the way worldly people respond today – as if objective truth is so illusory that no one should even hope to grasp it.

The good news is that you don’t have to be nearly so jaded and cynical as Pilate.  You can know the truth.  We all can.

Jesus Christ told His disciples just hours before the encounter with Pilate, “I am the truth.”  Jesus not only testifies of the truth, He Himself is the truth.

Jesus is our fixed point of reference is a world spinning out of control.  He is absolute certainty in this life…and in the one to come.  He is its common thread.

Let go of your cynicism and hopelessness.  Trust Jesus…and Him alone.  Upon Him you can build a solid understanding of truth in this life, for He tells the truth and He is the truth.

The Virtues of Unorganized Religion

By “unorganized religion” I simply mean the opposite of organized religion.  That is, unorganized religion is human beings relating directly to God…without any of them being part of any religious group.

The first virtue of unorganized religion is that it is actually organized.  In fact, it is more organized than organized religion.  How can this be?  It is organized by God instead of human beings.  That is, you relate to God without human intermediaries – without a church, mosque, or other group involved.

The second virtue of unorganized religion is that, since it is organized by God Himself, you’ll have someone loving, righteous, and perfect for a spiritual leader: Jesus Christ Himself.

The third virtue of unorganized religion is that you won’t have a human spiritual leader.  This will surely spare you grief – whether some grief or much grief.

This is just the beginning of the virtues of churchless Christianity.  Serve God and be done with human power structures which operate in His name.  Jesus called this “the kingdom of God.”

If you just think a thought in His direction, He’ll receive it…and you’ll begin, or resume, a journey of drawing closer and closer to Him.

Is Jesus the Lord of Christians…or the Lord of Everyone?

Jesus Christ is not just Lord of the Christians.  They may claim that they have sole right to Him but the truth is that He is Lord of everyone – absolutely everyone.

There was a time when He was Lord of only the church.  That was during the New Testament age.  But the apostles looked for His imminent coming in which He would receive all the nations as His inheritance.  This was accomplished in the spiritual realm just as the apostles and the prophets said it would be – sometime in the latter part of the 1st Century A.D. (Jesus Christ Has Already Come Again).

Let us forsake every religion and live only for Jesus Christ – the one true Lord, the one true God, of heaven and earth.  This means repenting of our sins day by day and living more and more for the love of God.  He will speak to your conscience.  Do what you know is right!

Death Has Lost Its Sting

A bee that has lost its sting is just a harmless insect.  Some bees even die themselves once they release their stinger.  This is, in effect, what happens to death – it dies itself.

Death comes to every human being, but Jesus Christ removed the power of the sting of death such that everyone who dies simply goes to heaven (Everyone Is Going to Heaven).  This great victory is enjoyed by the whole world because God so loved the world.  This is the love God has for all of us through Jesus Christ.

Therefore, death still comes…but it is impotent.  Oh, it may separate loved ones for a while…but not for long.  Every human being who dies…lives again immediately in another realm – a realm where you will one day join them.  Be at peace on this subject.  Great peace.

Death Is Our Enemy No More

That the Bible calls death our “enemy” is an encouragement in and of itself.  It implies that God is taking our side in the issue.  But the news gets better, for the Bible describes God as “abolishing death” through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Therefore, while death was an enemy, it is no more.  Death is simply our transition from life on earth to life in heaven.  Our daily relationship with God can and should be built upon the foundation of this assurance.

This applies to every person (Everyone Is Going to Heaven).

The Dead Are Not Dead

No one who has died is dead.  Sure, they may be dead to this world and to us, but because of Jesus Christ they live in heaven now and forever.

Everyone who has died leaves this world but they enter a heavenly existence which is not subject to death.

Therefore, it is unwarranted and impractical for us to grieve as if we are not going to see our loved ones again.  We may grieve as those who will be parted for a while – but that’s all.  The dead are not dead and, for life’s sake, we must keep reminding ourselves of that fact.  To help, see Everyone Is Going to Heaven.

Many people today believe that there is no God and that there is no life after death.  Even these people go to heaven when they die.  Yes, this will surprise them…but happily so.   Nonetheless, they may regret that they did not believe while they were on earth.  Don’t be like them!  Enjoy this life morally by living for God, knowing that this is not all there is!

The Heavens Are Ablaze with the Glory of the Lord

When Jesus of Nazareth was raised from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion and burial, the world was irrevocably changed.  God had honored the greatest human life ever lived by bringing back its star for an encore – an encore that would last an eternity.

Jesus ascended into heaven and from there the glory of His never-ending life shines forth.  We cannot see this glory with our physical eyes, but our spiritual eyes – that is, our faith in Him – has 20/20 vision.

Be done with the darkness of ignorance that covers this earth – the spiritual ignorance of God’s glory.  Live your life in the light of God’s radiant presence through Jesus Christ.  Do not consider Him foreign for He donned flesh and blood and lived the same sort of existence you now live.  He knows what it’s like.  He’s truly been here.

Jesus is looking down toward you now with the same great love that animated His gaze upon the crowds that followed Him during His earthly life.  Look to Him now.  Speak to Him.  But, more importantly, listen to Him!  He speaks deep within your heart.
