Religion Is Corruptible but God Isn’t

Religion can be corrupted because religion is administered by human beings. Every human being is subject to temptation, and thus to being corrupted. Religious leaders can thus be corrupted by the same things (such as money, fame, power, and so on) that corrupt leaders of any other endeavor.

Because religion can be corrupted, God had to design a plan of redemption that did not depend on people to administer it.  Therefore, the nation of Israel (with its temple, priests, and sacrifices) was merely a preliminary stage before the institution of the kingdom of God (the incorruptible administration of God Himself).  Even the church we see in the New Testament was preliminary.  It was the final stage of Israel before the kingdom of God came.

The kingdom of God is Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Therefore, if you want to have a proper relationship with God you do not need religion.  You only need to embrace Jesus by faith.  He is, of course, invisible, but you know His name and you can therefore call upon Him at any time.  You can keep your mind focused on Him all day long as you serve Him with your life.

There was a time when God used human intermediaries (that is, biblical times), but those times are no more.  You can relate to God directly.  Therefore, the only one who can hurt your relationship with God is you.  Don’t be your own worst enemy.  Trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  Live for Him!

Why Did the Life of Jesus Create Such a Stir?

Jesus of Nazareth, son of a carpenter, went about 1st Century Judea, a Roman outpost, doing good things for people.  He fed the hungry and healed the sick.  He taught about God and refused to involve Himself in political issues.  Why then were people so stirred up about Him that they went to all the trouble to try, convict, scourge, and crucify Him?  In other words, why did people go to the trouble to kill such a kind person – and not just kill Him, but humiliate and discredit Him in the process?  There must have been more going on than met the eye.

Indeed, there was more going on than what met the eye.  God was in Jesus (and, of course, God doesn’t meet the eye) and that was what was attracting all the hostility.  The world has always been hostile to God.  It still is.

True Believers Do Not Gather to Each Other – They Gather to God

People who trust in organized religion are not trusting God at all.  They are trusting organized religion – which is people, with a hierarchy.  (There’s always a hierarchy!)

If you want to be known to God, you present yourself to God.  You go to Him.  You live your life knowing that He’s aware of all your thoughts, hears all your words, and observes all your deeds.  You throw yourself on His mercy because you know that He is righteous and you know that He is Judge of all that occurs.

Do you think that the approval of a church or synagogue or mosque is the approval of God?  It’s not.

True believers seek God, not people.

True believers seek to please God, not people.

True believers trust God, not people.

True believers live for the approval of God, not the approval of people.

True believers seek the glory of God, not the glory of themselves or others.

True believers want praise from God, not praise from people.

True believers gather to God, not to other believers.

Do you want to have true faith?  Look to Jesus Christ…and to no one else.

Is Organized Christianity the Best Form of Organized Religion?

Organized Christianity is the best form of organized religion only in the sense that it possesses the greatest store of truth.  This truth, however, is resident in the Bible (Old and New Testaments) that it venerates.  Therefore, you can have the truth just by reading the Bible – you don’t have to engage in any of the rituals or practices of churches.

The specific problem of organized Christianity is that its leaders say things but do not do them.  That is, churches profess that Jesus is Lord…but they do not obey Him.  If they did, there would only be one church.  Jesus Himself said that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.  How then can churches be His kingdom?  There are over 30,000 Christian denominations – and untold numbers of nondenominational churches.  For more on the problem of organized Christianity, see here.

The kingdom of God is invisible – just as God is invisible.  If you will obey Jesus in faith, He will see you, guide you, and protect you in this life.  That’s what faith is – trusting what you know to be true without having to see it physically.  Putting it more precisely, faith is trusting whom you know to be true without having to see Him physically.  Organized religion, whether Christian or otherwise, is merely a means of avoiding faith in God.

You can either develop your relationship with organized religion or develop your relationship with God.  Which will it be for you?

Organized Religion Separates You from God

Organized religion is bad for you because it separates you from God.  This is ironic, of course, because they present themselves as able to bring you close to God.

The truth is that each one of us human beings came from God and we are all going back to God when we die.   You don’t get any closer than that, and that closeness is an inheritance belonging to every single one of us.

Yes, there was a time when God chose certain people to represent Him, but that all ended with the close of biblical times.  Those people left the Bible for us as their testimony to God.  Since then, the kingdom of God has been reigning and every human being is on equal footing with Jesus Christ – who was revealed by the Bible to be the God of heaven and earth.

The previously mentioned irony of organized religion is that it purports to bring you closer to God by inserting itself between you and God.  Don’t buy that illogical message.  Call on God today from your heart.  Repent of your selfishness and give yourself back to Him.  He loves you and will welcome you with open arms.  Be as close to Him now as you were when you were born and as you will be when you die.  Just be sincere about it and don’t look for approval to any other human being – me included.  You belong to God!

Jesus Was More Moral Than Religious

Jesus was kind and generous.  He did good things for people.  In so doing, He always gave glory to God.  However, He did not get along with, or go along with, the religious leaders of His day.  In fact, He was a source of great consternation to them…and they were the objects of His criticism and ridicule.

You’ve probably heard the story about how He drove the money changers and merchants from the temple with a scourge of cords while overturning their tables.  He certainly made no religious friends with that act.

And then there was the time He healed a man who had been lying on a pallet, lame for the previous 38 years.  Did the religious leaders applaud or even acknowledge the kind and practical benefit Jesus had bestowed on the man?  Hardly.  Instead, they condemned the poor man for carrying around his pallet on the Sabbath.  Can you imagine a wheelchair victim being healed today and then people complaining because the person was pushing around their wheelchair a little too wildly?  Organized religion dulls the moral senses.

Jesus is the God of all righteousness, now reigning over heaven and earth.  He came down here for a while to show us how life ought to be lived.  In doing so, He made it clear that morality is His desire – not religiosity.

Morality Trumps Religion Every Time

Does the world need more religion or more morality?

Does your workplace need more religion or more honesty?

Do your friends need more religion or more kindness?

Does your family need more religion or more love?

If you are stranded in a dark and dangerous place do you want a stranger to do something religious or something helpful?

The good news from heaven is that God answers all these questions the same way we do!  He wants to see more morality (the Bible usually calls it righteousness or justice).  Let’s forsake religion and pursue righteousness in the sight of God.

Institutional Religion Is Worthless

Institutional religion is worthless precisely because it promotes institutions instead of God.  Another way of saying this is that organized religion promotes itself, not God.

This is not to say that religious institutions are devoid of truth.  On the contrary, they often have truth (though to varying degrees).  The problem is that they neither believe – nor obey – the truth they have to any significant degree.  If they did, they would be trusting God instead the institution.

During biblical times, God used organized religion (the nation of ancient Israel) to establish and record His truth in the earth.  Since the Bible was completed, however, He no longer needs institutional religion.

You can relate to God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  He is God Almighty and wants to have personal communication with you.  He wants you to love Him as He loves you – which is to say, greatly!

There Are Only Two Kinds of People in the World: Those Who Believe and Those Who Will Believe

Everyone will eventually be a believer.  Even if someone goes his entire life without believing, yet when he dies, the scales will fall from his eyes and he will see the living God in all His glory (Everyone Is Going to Heaven).

Therefore, you shouldn’t worry at all about persecution from others for your faith.  If you bear up while suffering unjustly, not returning evil for evil, you will be like the Lord Jesus Christ and you will bring honor to Him.  You might even bring some of your persecutors to faith before they die – which would be a blessing for them and for you.

Organized Religion Gives God a Bad Name

Organized religion, and especially organized Christianity, gives God a bad name.  I say “especially organized Christianity” because it speaks the most accurate truth about our Creator, which makes its hypocrisy all the more destructive.

Organized Christianity is not God’s requirement.  Therefore, there is no reason for us to cling to it.  I am not suggesting that we prohibit those who want to practice organized religion.  I’m just suggesting that if you want to serve God, you don’t need organized religion to do that.

You serve God by doing good, by doing right.  You serve God by forgiving others while you yourself live the most moral life you know how.  You serve God by walking with Him every day of your life.

Let the organized religionists walk with each other.  You walk with God.
