The Living One

Jesus Christ is “The Living One.”  He described Himself by just this name.

He is alive from the dead, ascendant in heaven, and present everywhere and at all times in the universe.  As someone has said, “In Him we live and move and have our being.”

Dwell on the meaning of this name.  He is alive forevermore!  His life is indestructible.  He will never die again.

We are the ones who are dead.  We need awareness of Him so that we can live.  When we’re not conscious of Him, we merely exist.

Call on His Name:  The Living One.

You’re Going to Repent Sooner or Later

You are going to be sorry for your sins and you are going to want to do better.  In other words, you are going to repent.  Everyone is going to repent.  If you wait until you die to do it, you will be ashamed and embarrassed.  Don’t put it off.  Repent now.

Since everyone is going to repent sooner or later, you might as well do it sooner when it will do you more good.  Once you die, there will be nothing you can do to change what you did on earth.

Here’s some further food for thought:

Are You Friendly or Hostile to the Name of Jesus?

Would you describe yourself as friendly to the name of Jesus Christ or hostile to it?

You cannot be a friend of God while you are hostile to the name of Jesus.  It is the name which represents God’s greatest expression of love for humanity.  To be hostile to this name is to show hostility to God Himself.

Have you noticed what a polarizing name Jesus is?  Usually, you will find that people are either delighted to hear that name come up in conversation…or feel awkward that someone brought Him up.  There’s no middle ground.

Given all that God has done for us through Christ, even indifference toward His name amounts to hostility.

You are known in heaven today by your friendship or hostility toward the name of Jesus  Christ.  How are you being viewed?

The Baby and the Bath Water

What does the church have that’s worth keeping?  The Bible.

What else?  Nothing.

Not buildings, not doctrines (churches are always disagreeing about it anyway), not sacraments (they don’t agree about those either) – and certainly not hierarchy (priests, pastors, popes, bishops, overseers, and every other kind of human rule you can think of).  All these things are useless.  They’re worse than useless: they’re dirty bath water.

Why then is the  Bible the one thing worth keeping?  Because it is the word of God, telling us about Jesus Christ – the one true God.

It’s true that the Bible says that because of Jesus everyone is going to heaven, but it’s also true that judgment is upon us.  Therefore, repent of your sins, but repent before God – not before people.  Call on the name of Jesus now and live for Him, so that when you die you can face Him gladly and without shame.

Hold fast to the baby (who is no longer a baby!), and throw out the bath water.

There Are Only Two Kinds of People in the World: Those Who Believe and Those Who Will Believe

Everyone will eventually be a believer.  Even if someone goes his entire life without believing, yet when he dies, the scales will fall from his eyes and he will see the living God in all His glory (Everyone Is Going to Heaven).

Therefore, you shouldn’t worry at all about persecution from others for your faith.  If you bear up while suffering unjustly, not returning evil for evil, you will be like the Lord Jesus Christ and you will bring honor to Him.  You might even bring some of your persecutors to faith before they die – which would be a blessing for them and for you.

We Live AFTER the End Times

The end times described in the Bible do not lie ahead of us.  On the contrary, they are behind us.  They occurred long ago.

Let me be clear and emphatic: The “end of all things” of which the Bible spoke…are past, not future.

Anyone who tells you that current events are part of end-time prophetic fulfillment are mistaken.  They are misreading the Bible.

This does not mean, however, that judgment does not come on the world for our sins.  Indeed it does (Judgment Is Upon Us).  Therefore, we should put away our sins and live for God through Jesus Christ.  But no matter how bad things get here, there is hope and redemption after this life (Everyone Is Going to Heaven).

There Is No More Death

“There shall be no more death.”  Those aren’t my words.  They come from the Bible.

Why does the Bible say this?  Because Jesus Christ abolished death – not in the sense that He made it go away, but in the sense that He completely changed its outcome.  So, it might as well have gone away because its outcome is nothing like what it used to be.

Death used to be the end – the end of a human life.  Through Jesus Christ it is now the entrance into a continuation of life – forever!

(The story of this dramatic reversal of fortunes is told in Everyone Is Going to Heaven, but you don’t have to read that unless you want more details.)

Because of what Jesus Christ has done for the human race, we can – with great justification – say, “There is no more death.”

Who Brought Life and Immortality to Light?

Jesus Christ brought life and immortality to light.  Until Him, the world had no true conception of how God might grant us another life after this one.

Until Jesus, the world was shrouded in darkness, ignorant of the plans God had for us.

The Jews knew there was a hope for resurrection, and its prophets painted its outlines in the Old Testament.  But only when Jesus came were these outlines filled in and colored with clarity.

We now know that Everyone Is Going to Heaven, and thus we are all immortal for sure.  But let us never forget the One who brought this truth to reality…and to light:  Jesus of Nazareth, Savior of the whole world.

There Is No Hell Beneath Us – Only Heaven Above

We live in a new creation.  This is not something science can detect for creation incorporates spiritual (that is, non-physical) realities.  The Bible is our most reliable source for this information, which is another way of saying that Jesus of Nazareth, His apostles, and the prophets of ancient Israel are our most reliable sources for this information.

The previous order of creation was heaven above and Hades below (the Hebrews called it Sheol).  The new creation order which Jesus brought in is heaven above us…and nothing below.  That’s why in the old order everyone who died went below – there was no place for us in heaven.  In the new order, everyone ascends to heaven – there’s nowhere else for us to go.

Why the change?  God’s love for us.  “God’s love for who?”  Us.  Human beings.  The whole human race.  That is, just as the whole human race used to descend to Hades at death, now the whole human race ascends to heaven.  That’s the Bible’s story of afterlife.  Of course, there’s a lot more to it – but those are the headlines.

This being the case, let us fall to our knees and thank God for such amazing mercy toward us.  Our sins had caused the problem.  His righteousness provided the answer.  Let us humble ourselves to stop living selfishly and start living in true love toward one another.  Start with your family…then your friends.  Leave no one out.

By the way, do none of this to impress others.  Trying to show everyone else how much better a person you are is counterproductive and unpleasant for everyone.  Live with your heart as an open book to God.  Your heart’s already open to Him anyway – just change what you’ve been writing on it.

(Why was hell never mentioned in either creation order?  Because hell is the judgment we bring on ourselves in this earth when we sin.  It therefore doesn’t have to do with the afterlife – it has to do with this life.  This is another good reason to repent!)

Walking Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death

Even if you don’t read the Bible, you may recognize the words of the title as coming from the 23rd Psalm – something like “Yea, tho’ I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil.”  It goes on to say, “for Thou are with me.”  Of course, we know now that Jesus Christ is the “Thou.”  And the meaning this has for us is that because of Him, Everyone Is Going to Heaven.

This whole earth, of course, sits in the shadow of death.  Everyone dies.  Yet God has sent a message into the world through His Son Jesus Christ that we should not fear this veil of intimidation.  For we are going to live forever.  It only looks like everything ends.  The truth is that life goes on in heaven.  God wants us to believe this.  God wants us to trust Him.  Let’s do it!
