Faith Is the Foundational Value of Righteousness

We know that God wants us to do right.  This He calls righteousness.

What is righteousness?  Well, it’s telling the truth, it’s being kind, it’s behaving respectfully toward others…it’s many such virtues.  The foundational virtue of all these, however, is faith.  Faith in God.  More specifically, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

So important is faith to God that He says it’s impossible to please Him without practicing it.

What is faith?  It’s a conviction about God and His nature.  It’s becoming and remaining convinced that God is good, that He always has our best interests at heart.

Therefore, whatever virtues you seek to cultivate in your quests for more righteous living, make sure you lay a daily foundation of moment-by-moment faith in Jesus Christ.  For without a good foundation, the rest of your virtues will eventually collapse.  Without the foundation of faith in your Lord, any other virtue will fail you in a time of testing.  And we all are tested.

Believe in Him who will abundantly supply every virtue you need when and as you need it.

True Believers Do Not Gather to Each Other – They Gather to God

People who trust in organized religion are not trusting God at all.  They are trusting organized religion – which is people, with a hierarchy.  (There’s always a hierarchy!)

If you want to be known to God, you present yourself to God.  You go to Him.  You live your life knowing that He’s aware of all your thoughts, hears all your words, and observes all your deeds.  You throw yourself on His mercy because you know that He is righteous and you know that He is Judge of all that occurs.

Do you think that the approval of a church or synagogue or mosque is the approval of God?  It’s not.

True believers seek God, not people.

True believers seek to please God, not people.

True believers trust God, not people.

True believers live for the approval of God, not the approval of people.

True believers seek the glory of God, not the glory of themselves or others.

True believers want praise from God, not praise from people.

True believers gather to God, not to other believers.

Do you want to have true faith?  Look to Jesus Christ…and to no one else.

Organized Religion Separates You from God

Organized religion is bad for you because it separates you from God.  This is ironic, of course, because they present themselves as able to bring you close to God.

The truth is that each one of us human beings came from God and we are all going back to God when we die.   You don’t get any closer than that, and that closeness is an inheritance belonging to every single one of us.

Yes, there was a time when God chose certain people to represent Him, but that all ended with the close of biblical times.  Those people left the Bible for us as their testimony to God.  Since then, the kingdom of God has been reigning and every human being is on equal footing with Jesus Christ – who was revealed by the Bible to be the God of heaven and earth.

The previously mentioned irony of organized religion is that it purports to bring you closer to God by inserting itself between you and God.  Don’t buy that illogical message.  Call on God today from your heart.  Repent of your selfishness and give yourself back to Him.  He loves you and will welcome you with open arms.  Be as close to Him now as you were when you were born and as you will be when you die.  Just be sincere about it and don’t look for approval to any other human being – me included.  You belong to God!

What Is Truth?

When Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate, the two of them had an interesting exchange.  Upon being questioned, Jesus declared that His purpose in the earth was to testify to the truth.  Pilate, being a man of the world, could only respond, “What is truth?”

This is still the way worldly people respond today – as if objective truth is so illusory that no one should even hope to grasp it.

The good news is that you don’t have to be nearly so jaded and cynical as Pilate.  You can know the truth.  We all can.

Jesus Christ told His disciples just hours before the encounter with Pilate, “I am the truth.”  Jesus not only testifies of the truth, He Himself is the truth.

Jesus is our fixed point of reference is a world spinning out of control.  He is absolute certainty in this life…and in the one to come.  He is its common thread.

Let go of your cynicism and hopelessness.  Trust Jesus…and Him alone.  Upon Him you can build a solid understanding of truth in this life, for He tells the truth and He is the truth.

The Virtues of Unorganized Religion

By “unorganized religion” I simply mean the opposite of organized religion.  That is, unorganized religion is human beings relating directly to God…without any of them being part of any religious group.

The first virtue of unorganized religion is that it is actually organized.  In fact, it is more organized than organized religion.  How can this be?  It is organized by God instead of human beings.  That is, you relate to God without human intermediaries – without a church, mosque, or other group involved.

The second virtue of unorganized religion is that, since it is organized by God Himself, you’ll have someone loving, righteous, and perfect for a spiritual leader: Jesus Christ Himself.

The third virtue of unorganized religion is that you won’t have a human spiritual leader.  This will surely spare you grief – whether some grief or much grief.

This is just the beginning of the virtues of churchless Christianity.  Serve God and be done with human power structures which operate in His name.  Jesus called this “the kingdom of God.”

If you just think a thought in His direction, He’ll receive it…and you’ll begin, or resume, a journey of drawing closer and closer to Him.

Faith Improves Your Morality

If your faith doesn’t make you more moral, then it is not a faith worth having.  It must be a faith in someone or something other than God, for true faith in God elevates your conscience.  He makes a sick conscience well; He makes a weak conscience strong.

Many people have faith in organized religion and for this reason their faith is not worth having.  Organized religion cannot redeem your conscience.  Only God can.

How does faith in God make you more moral (that is, elevate your conscience)?  By making you aware of a standard of morality higher than your own – a standard that is, in fact, perfect.

People who try to be moral without faith are dealing with an inferior standard – their own.  For this reason they are self-righteous.

People who put their trust in God are constantly calibrating their own consciences to the perfect standard.  They tend to be more merciful and forgiving of people because they know that condemnation of others invites judgment on themselves.

Turn away from your self-righteousness.  Trust in Jesus Christ – the most moral Man who ever lived and the God of all humanity.  In Him your conscience will be continually raised.

Atheists and Agnostics Can Turn to God Without Turning to Organized Religion

Atheists often rail against the evils of organized religion.  Who can blame them?  Organized religion has indeed been responsible for much evil in the world.

The good news for atheists and agnostics alike, however, is that they can have a relationship with God without having to make peace with organized religion.  Jesus Christ is Lord of heaven and earth and He will receive all who come to Him.  Trust Him in your heart and live according to His example and teachings.  Continue to steer clear of organized religion for this will please Him.

Who is Jesus Christ?  The truth about Him is told in the Bible, but you know Him as the One who has given you your innate sense of morality.  Trust Him…and take your morality to a new level.  For without acknowledging Him, the best you can ever do in this life is to be self-righteous.  And then how would you be any better than the organized religionists?

Jesus Christ: The Vapor Trail of God

Vapor trails (also called “Contrails,” short for “condensation trails”) are the traces that a jet aircraft leaves as it crosses the sky.  After the plane is gone, you can see its path by the cloud trail it left behind.

Jesus Christ is the vapor trail of God.  In saying this I am remembering the Bible verse that says that we humans are but a vapor that appears for a while and then vanishes away.  God was in Christ, redeeming the world through that humble life.  To those who witnessed the earthly life of Jesus of Nazareth, it seemed a human life – albeit one particularly blessed by God.  From the vantage point of having witnessed His resurrection after His crucifixion, the life seemed superhuman.  And now with the vantage point of almost 2,000 years later we can see that the life was Divine.

God passed by!  Our Creator walked our planet.  He lived among us.  Oh, the wonder and majesty of God having been in our midst.  Blessed be His holy name!

Only after He’s passed – like a vapor trail – can we fully appreciate the grandeur of His passage.

Seek Fellowship with God, Not with Christians

Have you been invited to “Christian fellowship”?  Here’s a better idea – seek God’s fellowship instead.

“Christian fellowship” is typically a social engagement in the name of God.  It is just like any other social engagement, except that it has the reputation (sometimes among its proponents only) of being sanctioned and blessed by God.  The truth is that it is not anything God is seeking.  In fact, He’s not pleased at all when people pull themselves away from others and declare among themselves, “We are God’s chosen!” – implying others are not.

The real fellowship God wants to see is between Himself…and you!  God made us for individual fellowship with Him.  It is a glorious thing to enjoy the presence of God in our hearts through the Holy Spirit.  This is the right and privilege of every single human being.  In fact, He’s speaking to you in your heart now.  Steady and quiet your heart and you will hear Him.  It’s the richest fellowship you’ll ever know!

God Thinks More Highly of a Moral Atheist Than He Does of an Immoral Christian

Our God (when I say “our God” I mean the Creator of heaven, earth, and all of us) has more regard for an atheist who tries to live morally than He does for a Christian who does not.

Christians will say that Jesus wants everyone to be a Christian.  The truth, according to the Bible, is that Jesus wants everyone to do right.

An atheist who loves his wife and children is doing better than a Christian who divorces his wife.

An atheist who serves others has more approval from God than a Christian who lives selfishly.

Yes, God wants us to acknowledge Him but what good is acknowledging Him if we’re not trying to live as morally as we know how?  If we profess a faith in Christ but don’t live morally then we just give people a reason to regard faith with contempt.

As for the atheist who truly wants to be moral in all that he does, he will not be able to remain an atheist for long – even though hypocritical “believers” present an obstacle he must step over.
