Ten Commandments: #7 – No Adultery…The Sexual Revolution

We’re surveying the Ten Commandments.  We can hardly talk about the seventh commandment in 21st-century America without addressing what is called “The Sexual Revolution.”

  • God is love.
    • You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
      • 1 – You shall have no other gods before Me.
      • 2 – You shall not make for yourself an idol.
      • 3 – You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
      • 4 – Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.
    • You shall love your neighbor as yourself; that is, treat people the same way you want them to treat you.
      • 5 – Honor your father and your mother.
      • 6 – You shall not murder.
      • 7 – You shall not commit adultery.
      • 8 – You shall not steal.
      • 9 – You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
      • 10 – You shall not covet.
  • We love because He first loved us.

Wikipedia begins its description of the Sexual Revolution as follows:

The Sexual Revolution, also known as a time of Sexual Liberation, was a social movement that challenged traditional codes of behavior related to sexuality and interpersonal relationships throughout the Western world from the 1960s to the 1980s.  Sexual liberation included increased acceptance of sex outside of traditional heterosexual, monogamous relationships (primarily marriage).  The normalization of contraception and the pill, public nudity, pornography, premarital sex, homosexuality and alternative forms of sexuality, and the legalization of abortion all followed.

Without getting into a debate about how reliable Wikipedia is as a source for facts, we can readily recognize that this definition generally matches what most of us know to be true about current public opinion on sexuality.

We can either accept current public opinion on sexual issues or we can accept the seventh commandment, but we cannot accept both.  These two ways of thinking are diametrically opposed to each other.

What is called “The Sexual Revolution” would be better called the sexual rebellion – “rebellion” because it has not succeeded and will not succeed, and lower case because it’s not nearly as profound as its proponents suppose it to be.  The sexual rebellion rebels against Judeo-Christian sexual ethics, against Christ’s ethics.  Therefore, it can rightly be considered anti-Christ in its essence.  As has been rightly said, the new morality is nothing but the old immorality repackaged.  It is calling evil good; it is calling bitter sweet.

You could say that the sexual rebellion’s sexual ethics amount to “whatever happens between two consenting adults in private is no one’s business but theirs” – but it’s worse than that.  First of all, it’s not necessarily limited to two persons anymore  Second, if the two people want to call their homosexual acts a marriage, then the rest of us have to act as if it is.  It used to be that society agreed that homosexuality is a sin, but now society insists that homosexuality is normal and it’s something called “homophobia” that is the sin.  Again, this is calling evil good; calling bitter sweet.

There is no end to the metastasizing cancer that is the sexual rebellion.  As soon as so-called “gay marriage” was approved in 2015, then came the transgender movement.  Those who are weary of the culture wars don’t understand that capitulation to an aggressor doesn’t end the aggression – it only ends resistance to the aggressor.  Supporters of the sexual rebellion will never be satisfied.  The moral insanity will only increase.  Sin is incapable of contentment.

The sexual rebellion grips modern society because it is sponsored by all the major institutions of modern society: entertainment media, news media, academia, and government.  As for government, the latest imposition of sexual rebellion ideology is SOGI protections in the law  –  SO standing for sexual orientation, and GI standing for gender identity.  These concepts were unknown throughout all human history until this generation, and yet we’re all supposed to act as if these are self-evident truths. Moreover, we’re bigots if we don’t accept sexual orientation because we should know that a person can’t change it, and we’re bigots if we don’t accept gender identity because we should know that a person can change it.  Yet no one can see this thing called a sexual orientation, but gender identity is so blazingly obvious that nurses vocalize it the instant a baby comes out of the womb – if not before!  Moral insanity is not too strong a term for the sexual rebellion.  It is an incoherent and self-contradictory philosophy.

The sexual rebellion unleashes a flood of evil consequences – and it’s not just the rebels who experience those consequences.  Children are the most tragic victims.  A human being has the best chance at a successful life when nurtured for a couple of decades by the man and woman responsible for the creation of that human being.  Daniel Patrick Moynihan warned in a 1965 U.S. government report that the negative social consequences of the 25% out-of-wedlock birth rate in the African-American population would be catastrophic for that segment of the population.  How alarmed then should we be today, knowing that the out-of-wedlock birth rate for all Americans is now 15 points higher than that – 40%?

The sexual rebellion is a rebellion against the seventh commandment.  Therefore, it is rebellion against nature, against reality.  It is doomed to fail.  Yet its major tenets go unquestioned by most Americans today.  You find its precepts taught and practiced in our schools, television shows, movies, books – it’s ubiquitous.  If you are going to keep the seventh commandment, you’ve got to know what you’re up against.  And if you have children to teach, you’ve got to know what they’re up against.  The sexual rebellion is a monster whose tentacles reach everywhere.

We’re living in Sodom and Gomorrah, and if you think that’s too strong a way of putting it then the sexual rebellion has already compromised your commitment to keeping the seventh commandment.

If Jesus is true, then everything that contradicts Him is false.  The sexual rebellion contradicts Jesus’ teaches about sexual morality.   Choose Sodom or choose Jesus – we cannot choose both.
