The Measure of a Man

Jesus Christ is the measure of a man.  That is, God is measuring your life using the standard of the life He lived on your behalf.  How then do you measure up?

If you make an honest comparison, you’re likely to faint.

Don’t faint, however.  Rather, accept His mercy and receive His grace which includes instruction for how you should live.

God knows that your life needs much change to be like His.  He is a patient teacher.  He will focus your attention on the area you most need to change.  Yes, repentance is a lifelong project for us – but each day is an opportunity for a step in the right direction.  Focus today on becoming stronger in Him.

If you’ve wandered away from Him, join the club.  Your waywardness does not make you unique.  He died for hard-heads and flip-floppers like us.  But He didn’t die so that we would remain hard-heads and flip-floppers.  Therefore, get up and get back on the path of faith in Him.

If you pray, you’ll know what your focus today should be.  He will make it known to you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
–  Proverbs 3:5-7

Stick with Him today…and you’ll be more like Him by nighttime.  Even if it’s only a little, progress matters.

Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.
–  1 Timothy 4:15

  1. It’s interesting how Proverbs 3:7 links honouring (fearing) the Lord and turning away from evil together. So pray for God’s help to turn away from evil.
