Finding Peace in a World of Tribulation

This is Jesus speaking:

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
–  John 16:33

This world is a place of tribulation.  And some days carry more tribulation than others.  But Jesus has revealed His thoughts to us – thoughts like the one above – that we might have peace in the midst of tribulation.

By dwelling on the thoughts of Jesus, the tribulation of the world is removed from our hearts and kept at a distance.  Because of the power of His thoughts, the world’s tribulation is forced stand outside us, unable to reach the interior of our souls.

Near to Jesus, far from the world.  Near to the world, far from Jesus.  It’s a choice.  Your choice.  Day by day.  Moment by moment.

Oh, and one more thing.  Consider that Jesus spoke the words above on the night before He was to be crucified.  That means that when He knew that His world was crashing down upon Him, He was still able to remain focused – not on His own needs – but on the needs of those who were depending on Him.  May you and I do the same on those days when our worlds are crashing down upon us.

Therefore, let us focus hard on these words of His and take them deeply into our souls so that we can carry them with us all day long and in all the days to come:

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
–  John 16:33
