A king is for obeying

Listen to this exchange between Jesus and Pontius Pilate:

Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king…”
–  John 18:37

If Jesus is king, shouldn’t we spend our days obeying Him?  And if we do, we can expect to be continually rescued.  This is what Paul said about Him in this regard:

…He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,
–  Hebrews 5:9

The phrase “eternal salvation” = “continual rescue.”

Let us therefore spend our days obeying Him.  Toward that end, let us pray each day as He taught us [emphasis added]:

“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
‘Give us this day our daily bread.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’
–  Matthew 6:9-13

The phrase “Your will be done” = “You are king and I will obey You rather than pursuing my own interests.”

The kingdom of God is Jesus being obeyed as king.
