What distinguishes the people of God in this age is not their ethnicity, nor even their verbal claim to be the people of God. What distinguishes them is their love of righteousness – and, most particularly, their love for the King of Righteousness, Jesus of Nazareth.
Why do we love Jesus so much? Because He is a man who lived His life doing right…and doing right even at great personal cost. Our daily prayer to God is that we could live such lives. The beauty of His righteousness is more important to us than any other kind of beauty…because this kind of beauty is more important to God than any other kind of beauty.
We are not a people who seek great wealth. Nor do we seek fame or to be considered “cool.” Such things are trivial to us; they are even to be despised because of the temptations they can bring. Rather, we seek to please Him…one day at a time. And we know what pleases Him: doing right in His sight, which begins with faith in His righteousness.
Let us therefore say with the apostle Paul:
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
