We’ve thought on Jesus as the Cornerstone, and also as the Rejected Stone. Scripture also calls Him “the stone of stumbling and rock of offense.” This reinforces how central Jesus Christ is to human life.
To those who embrace Jesus, He is the cornerstone of life. To those who reject Him, He becomes what they constantly stumble over, what constantly offends them.
No one is indifferent toward Jesus Christ. He is either loved or hated, cherished or despised. If you don’t think so, mention His name favorably the next time you’re in a group and see what kind of responses you get. People will find the mention of His name in a public setting either appealing or appalling. No one will yawn.
Jesus was despised and forsaken of men. If you love Him, you will be, too. Do not let this discourage you for it only means greater honor for you from God.
His name is powerful. Let it be a power for good to you – stone you build on, not a stone you reject and stumble over.
Call on His Name: The Stone of Stumbling and Rock of Offense
Bible notes on this post.
The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus Christ to those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church – or anything else – but Him.
