The Lord of the Sabbath

Jesus called Himself “Lord of the Sabbath.”  We know that He’s the Lord, but what does it mean to be “the Lord of the Sabbath?”

Jesus was prophesying that the great Sabbath of God was coming.  Not a 24-hour day of rest, but an eternal “day” of rest.  In this day, we would cease from our own works so that we might do the works of God.  This is the kingdom of God, which we should seek.

On this eternal sabbath day, we are to follow the directions of the Lord Jesus – not the archaic rules of obsolete religion.  He said we should love Him and each other.  Let us therefore turn from our selfish motivations and instead obey Him who loves us and gave Himself up for us.

Call on His Name:  The Lord of the Sabbath.

Bible notes on this post.

The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus Christ to those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church – or anything else – but Him.
