We need a whole new orientation to life. Just trying to be a better person doesn’t work.
What do I mean by orientation? Basically, to live according to what’s invisible rather than merely according to what’s visible.
God is invisible. If we want to truly be better people we need to be oriented to His presence. Since His presence can’t be detected through our physical senses, we must trust that He is there. We must act as if our motives matter to Him, and that we are trying to make positive impressions on Him with what we think.
We are used to living for the approval of people, so all it takes to live for God is simply to change the focus of our efforts from other people to God.
Only by continually acknowledging God’s presence can we find the power to resist temptation and make better choices.
The whole new orientation comes best by acknowledging Jesus Christ, the Lord of heaven and earth. He is wherever you are and wherever you go. Stop living for yourself and start living for Him and you will find all the power you need to become the kind of person you want to become.
As you do this, just remember that He loved you and paid attention to you first – long before you started thinking about paying any attention to Him.
Bible notes on this post.
The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus Christ to those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church – or anything else – but Him.
