Why Does Such a Little Name – Jesus – Make Such a Big Difference?

The name of Jesus has enormous power.  Just utter it at the next office meeting, cocktail party, or bowling alley you attend and see what happens.  People will usually either cheer or jeer.

Why is this?  Is there something that special about that five-letter, two-syllable word?  No.  It’s that the person holding that name has been made Lord of heaven and earth by virtue of His resurrection from the dead.  Therefore, any reference to Jesus is a reference to the One who is above every other name or level of authority.  The highest ruler in every nation would still be subservient to the Lord of heaven and earth.  Even all angels and other purely spiritual beings are subject to that name.

The name “Jesus” has power because of the title that’s been placed in front of it: “Lord.”

That’s why such a little name makes such a big difference.

Bible notes on this post.

The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus Christ to those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church – or anything else – but Him.

  1. Your first paragraph made me smile, Mike, since it is true. The reactions from other people to Jesus’ name are quite predictable. Perhaps I would add that some people show big eyes with almost visible question marks inside, and others can hardly hide the urge to yawn because they experienced anything that has to do with Jesus, God, and the church was a bore for them.

The funniest reaction to my confession that I love Jesus was this one: “What? You?? You don’t look like these women who…who….go to church, pray, read the Bible, and so on!” This strange statement made me wonder how female believers should look like. There is a typical German prejudice that a Christian woman ought to maintain a low profile both in behavior and looks. I won’t bore you with the details, but in order to put it briefly: Christian women should not only remain silent but be quasi invisible too. 😉

Thanks be to God that He loves me though I don’t have the looks I ought to have. Presumably God knew what He did when He created me the way I am.
Interesting enough that people first consider the envelope before they see the letter, that is, the hidden inner spiritual being born from above. With enlightened inner eyes of the heart, there are no envelopes any more. Looking the latter way through the Holy Spirit’s power really makes the big difference between my life before Jesus and my life with Him.

Indeed, now and then looking back I see the difference. Anytime I need to keep the faith, it is always His Spirit who lights the way to guide me home. When it gets too much, He is right beside me. One of the best things ever happened to me is that He clears up my mind all the time.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, He came along unexpectedly, and made me believe in happy endings too (that is, in Heaven eternally). I can’t explain it but my whole world has changed (all of it completely). From time to time, it just feels all day long, hour after hour, like rollercoaster riding with Him 🙂

Finally, I am pleased to admit that life with Jesus is anything but boring because He is wonderful.
