What is it about the name of Jesus Christ that creates such a stir whenever it is invoked?
The mention of God puts many people on edge, but the name of Jesus will actually send them over the edge. So what is it?
It’s the phenomenon I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Why Did the Life of Jesus Create Such a Stir? That is, God was in Jesus and the world hates God. The world lashed out at Jesus because it does not like God. The world does not like God because it wants to live free from any constraints He might impose. In other words, the world is proud and not humble.
Jesus is alive today and stands fully by His name. Therefore, the mention of His name draws the same enmity out of people that He drew out. All the hostility that people have toward God comes out in attacks on His name. I’m not talking about the mere vocalization of His name. Rather, I’m talking about any sincere reference to His person, His character, His reputation.
Therefore, be aware that if you continue to grow in your love for Jesus you will – sooner or later – encounter hostility. When that happens, do not be surprised or shaken. Just love your persecutors as Jesus loved those who persecuted Him.
Shouldn’t we stop living for our own comforts and instead live for His glory?
Bible notes on this post.
The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus to those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church.
