Church Is for Lip Service

If the only kind of service you want to render to Jesus is lip service, go to church.  Lip service is the church’s specialty.  I ought to know: I was a pastor and no matter how hard I tried to serve Jesus through the church, it never amounted to more than lip service.  Oh, we helped a few poor people and performed some acts of kindness, but most of our energy was devoted to keeping the church operating.  This is true of every church whether they will admit it or not.

Instead of a church saying that its “worship service” starts at 11:00 on Sunday mornings it ought to say that its “lip service” starts at 11:00 on Sunday mornings.

What is the alternative to lip service?  One, of course, is to rebel against God.  The other, however, is to cease doing anything in life for yourself and start doing everything in your life for Jesus.  That is, do good, be generous and always ready to share…with everyone.  Think only pure thoughts.  Worship God in your heart and always be thankful to Him.  Help the weak.  And be a servant to everyone.  This is true service.  And none of it requires a church to accomplish.  In fact, a church will only get the in the way of doing these things.  Opt for true service instead of lip service.

Bible notes on this post.

The purpose of this blog is to praise Jesus Christ for those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church, organization, mailing list, or anything else other than Him.
