The primary subject of the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth was the kingdom of God. This phrase, or something like it, appears over a hundred times in the New Testament. If it’s that important, we should know what it is.
The kingdom of God is the rule of God in our individual lives. More precisely, it is the rule of Jesus as Lord in our individual lives. Yes, He is our collective Lord but our obedience to Him must be personal.
If we are daily obeying Jesus then we will daily experience peace and joy in our hearts. That is, our souls will be blessed. This blessedness of soul is independent of any circumstances – good or bad – which we may be facing.
Apart from God, humanity seeks peace and joy through accumulation of wealth, health, or attention. With God, we do not need such accumulations to relieve us of our insecurities. Moreover, we realize the inadequacy of worldly accumulations. Through Christ, we are content in our circumstances and we are confident that all our genuine needs will be met. We are no longer provoked by fears of loss or desires for gain. We are free of all forms of insecurity. We function in life – living and working and loving – but we look to Him who is unseen for our approval in all these activities.
Seek first the kingdom of God and you will enjoy an ever-increasing flow of peace and joy in your heart. This has nothing to do with going to church. It has everything to do with being personally devoted to Jesus our Lord. You do not have to register with anyone on earth in order to follow Jesus – He knows right now, and always, if you are seeking to please Him.
Bible notes on this post.
The purpose of this blog is to praise Jesus Christ for those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church, organization, mailing list, or anything else other than Him.
