The kingdom of God which Jesus promised is in our midst. It is, of course, invisible. Nonetheless, it is real and infinitely more durable and long-lasting than anything that is visible. If we would enter the kingdom, we must repent.
Repentance is turning from our prior life of living according to what we can see, to living our lives according to the realities we cannot see. The greatest of these invisible realities by far is God Himself.
Only the righteous can enter the kingdom and righteousness begins with faith in God. Faith is your inner assurance that God is real and that He loves you. To your faith, you must add the set of righteous qualities you see in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. These include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. You may feel inadequate to express these qualities…and indeed you are in and of yourself. However, with God all things are possible. If you trust Him and don’t forget that He’s always present and watching you, then you will be able to exhibit these qualities with diligent practice.
Repentance is not a one-time event – it’s a lifestyle that you adopt in place of the one you have. If you would find your way into the kingdom of God which will bring you untold peace and joy on a daily basis, then repent of how you’ve been living.
