Don’t Pray for a Change in Circumstances

People commonly pray to God to get them out of jams they are in.  This is not effective prayer.  Effective prayer is asking God to give you the wisdom and strength to do the right thing in the jam you are in.  If you do so, you may have to stay in the jam a little longer than you wanted to, but you will be delivered from that jam in a way that will prevent you from ever being caught in it again.

Here’s why:  Jesus faced death.  He did not pray for His Father to keep Him from dying.  Rather, He prayed that He would do the right thing up to and including death on the cross.  As a result, God delivered Jesus from death three days later…but in a way that Jesus would never die again!  If God had merely kept Jesus from dying, the trial would have returned again and again.

In the midst of a trial, recognize that God wants to make your character more like Jesus Christ’s.  Therefore, let Him do that.  As a result, you will be delivered from your trial in a permanent way.  In this way, you will overcome every trial you face and your relationship with God will only deepen with each one.

The purpose of this blog is to provide information about Jesus to those who want to hear about Him without having to join something.
