When Jesus Christ brought into being the new covenant, an essential element was that God’s law (that is, His commandments, or His will) would be inscribed on the tablet of every human heart. In this way, every human being would know the Lord. Irrespective of religion, or the lack thereof, every human conscience would be an agent of the one true God.
Your conscience therefore speaks to you on behalf of God. Through your conscience, God dwells within you. And through your conscience, you can know God’s will for your life. The question is, how often and how closely do you listen to your conscience?
Conscience is moral muscle – the more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes. Conversely, if you seldom consult it, it becomes flabby and weak.
Even when someone has a strong conscience, they may misuse it. That is, they may direct it outward, judging others. This leads to very unwholesome consequences. The purpose of conscience is to guide your own personal behavior, not the behavior of anyone else.
A conscience can also become defective through repeated sin. You must repent of any known sin if you want your conscience to be clear and operate as God intends.
Continually consult your conscience. Grow and develop your reliance upon it. As you exercise it, it will tell you the right thing to do in every situation. If you do the right thing, God’s blessing will be upon you. This is why you do not have to worry about what you will eat, or what clothes you will wear, or where you will live. God will provide for His children, and your obedience to conscience will enable you to see that provision when it’s needed.
The purpose of this blog is to provide information about Jesus to those who want to hear about Him without having to join something.
